Grand Rapids City Commission has approved a grant agreement with the state’s Department of Natural Resources. The park’s updating project is estimated to cost $230,000, with the DNR contributing $150,000 of the needed dollars. The City will be funding the $80,000 difference, using funds collected from the park’s millage fund.
The Riverside Park project will begin one year from now, spring 2020, and must be completed by March 2021 in order to collect the state’s dollar contribution. Renovations will center around the oldest section of the existing park, adding new docks, with easy canoe and kayak access, a handicapped transfer bench, restroom remodel, a picnic shelter, picnic tables, benches and paved parking and pathway trails.
