I have had the privilege of being a Spectrum Butterworth volunteer for the past 20 years! It has been rewarding, helping raise dollars for the special needs and requests of various hospital departments along with the enjoyment of meeting and working with other guild members. Our general meetings are held monthly, throughout the school year and on several occasions, there is a program included to keep us informed about health and safety issues within this heath care community.
Yesterday, our meeting included a very special guest, Cain, and his master, who spoke about the security of Spectrum Butterworth and the abilities of his furry canine friend. K-9 Cain is a German Shepherd, who traveled from the Netherlands to serve with the Spectrum Health Security Police Department’s Canine Unit. He is certified by the US Police Canine Association and is trained to be gentle during interactions. However, on command, he can protect; detect scents such as illegal drugs or bombs and has excellent tracking skills.
About the Junior Mollie Booth Guild –
In 2011, the Junior Guild and Mollie Booth Guild joined to form the newly created Junior Mollie Booth Guild. Together they bring more than 140 years of combined service history to Butterworth Hospital. The guild members raise money by hosting a variety of fundraisers and working in the Fireside Grille. All funds raised are given back to the hospital, for needed programs. The guild continues to provide the heart and lung pillows for surgery patients.
