A block long parcel between Wealthy & Logan Streets, running along S. Division & fronting the Silver Line Bus Rapid Transit stop, is the proposed site of a newly planned 104-unit senior living project. Sixty percent of the affordably built apartments would be reserved for low income senior tenants while forty percent would be leased at current market value.
The project would include ten 2-bedroom apartments and 94 1-bedroom apartments, along with the main level housing retail businesses and a restaurant. A grocery store proposal is also in the works for the corner at Wealthy and S. Division. This planning is in its infant stages and will be determined by the availability of tax credits from Michigan’s Housing Development Authority.
ICCF currently has a waiting list of 750 residents hoping to utilize this nonprofit housing units and coming real property.
Meijer’s “Simply Give” – Walker, Michigan
Generous and 2017 record-setting, Meijer’s “Simply Give” program raised nearly $8.5 million, which is equivalent to the same number of meals at $1 each. An amazing $3 million of these donations were raised during the past holiday season, to the benefit of families throughout W. Michigan. Meijer runs their campaign three times yearly; spring, autumn and the holiday season. Customers, at Meijer’s, buy $10 gift cards at check-out and Meijer converts those gift cards into food-only cards, which in turn are donated to local food pantries.
