Walker based Meijer operates 223 super-centers and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.
Meijer’s 2015’s donations total 69 million in free supplements and generic medication to customers, regardless of insurance coverage: 6 million free prescriptions marked a record-setting year and are valued at 422 million dollars.These dollars are based on what customers would have paid for medicines or vitamins at a private retailer.

The program began a decade ago with free oral antibiotics, most commonly prescribed for children. It expanded by 2008 to include free prenatal vitamins, Metformin (RX drug for type 2 diabetes) and Atorvastatin calcium, a substitute for cholesterol-lowering medications.
