FREE RADON TEST KITS
FACT: The American Lung Association says radon leads to the deaths of about 21,000 Americans each year.
Our own Kent County Health Department is offering FREE kits for testing households for radon gas. County residents may pick up these kits, at their local health department sites, while supplies last. Testing for radon is an easy and important safety measure for all area residents and their families. These kits are easy to use, do not take up space and will be ready for reading results within a matter of a few days.
The kits are available for pick-up Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the following locations:

We have another first in W. Michigan: An April launching of our Navy’s super-carrier, a 12.9-billion-dollar nuclear powered warship, which is 4.5 acres in size, weighs 100,000 tons and bears the name of Grand Rapids resident and 38th President of the United States, Gerald R. Ford. This air-craft carrier, the most advanced ever built, has been under construction since 2005 and is in its final stages of testing, with a completion and release date of April, 2017. The statistics are impressive: This ship can cruise at more than 30 knots (i.e. 35-36 MPH) and can operate for 20 years without refueling. It includes electromagnetic launch systems for jets and drones, a larger flight deck and is engineered to accommodate new sensors, software, weapons and combat systems as they become available. Laser weapons and rail guns may eventually replace some of the missile systems on board.
