76 S. Getty Street, the historic 1902 home of Continental Motors Corporation, has seen many changes. From an arsenal of democracy during World War II, at which time 11,000 people were employed, to its present day production of engines and transmissions, CPS’s slogan is now “We Power Freedom”. The 170-acre site with its 1.2 million-square-foot building has been home to L-3 Technologies since 2004. This facility is cavernous, clean, quite and is filled with work stations, where its engineers assemble engines and transmissions for government contracts*.
The CPS President is Maria Hedden, who stated during an MLive interview that “What we do matters to the safety of our nation.” An estimated 15-million has been invested in the plant since 2017 to prepare for increased production. This company expects its transmission production to double this year, while their engine production is expected to double in 2020.
*CPS engines power the American Hercules Recovery Vehicle, Israel’s Puma, Namer & Merkava Vehicles too. Its transmissions are in use for the Bradley Fighting Vehicle, PIM Howitzer, Multiple Launched Rocket System and Armored Multiple Purpose Vehicles.
