Three blighted buildings in the 500 block of Eastern Avenue, SE, the Baxter Neighborhood, will be raised within the next few weeks. Coming by the end of 2019; a 65-unit apartment building, with 1-,2-, and 3-bedroom apartments for lease. 17 units will be reserved for homeless youths (18-years to 24-years) and the remaining for low to moderate-income residents. ICCF is spearheading this effort.
Construction is underway near Burton Street, SE and Division Avenues: Garfield Park Lofts will include 36 apartments for low-income residents. This 9 million-dollar project has many partners, including PNC Real Estate, Orion Construction, Dwelling Place and the founder, LINC UP, a community development organization. 30 percent of the cost of construction will be awarded to local minority contractors and the workers on the site. Completion date is set for November 2019.
636 First Street, NW, will be the site of Stockbridge Apartments, a 64-unit structure with main level retail spaces. 51 apartments will be reserved for low income residents with the remaining apartments available for lease at market rate. Located west of downtown Grand Rapids, ICCF and Rockford Construction are teaming up to provide affordable housing, inspire community activities, community involvement and opportunities for a broad base of occupants – people from all walks of life. A newly opened Meijer Store and several avaunt-guard restaurants are nearby.
