The Amway tower will undergo renovations of insulated, energy efficient and modernized glass to give the original 1982 tower a “facelift”. The completion date is scheduled for 2021 and while the “work of art” is in progress, about 55 of the hotel’s 682 rooms will be closed. This $40-million-dollar work will highlight the angled tower roofline to enhance and maintain this Amway signature brand.
Game or concert goers will soon lose their ability to step outside and enjoy a smoke. Beginning March 2019, the exterior smoking area, located in the southeast corner of the arena, will be eliminated. Any patrons stepping out will not be permitted re-entry. The reason for this change has been sited as “security”. It has been stated, by the management service that operates Van Andel Arena, SMG, that “this change will act as an enhancement to current security procedures.”
