449 Bridge Street, NW, will have a new look this coming spring.
The vacant building, restaurant & home of the Red Lion, has been unused since the restaurant closed in 2004. This blighted city property and parking lot will be raised and a new 5-story building, a 9.5 million-dollar project, will shine among the city’s growing NW entertainment district.
The building structure will house 44 compact apartments, ranging in size from 370 to 630 square feet and are either studio apartments or one-bedroom. The pricing for these living spaces will be less than $1,000 per month and 30 percent of these leased units will be income restricted, or for families earning 80 percent or less of our areas median income.
The main level will house a restaurant with up to 38 new jobs being created. Sandwiched between two established pubs and near the soon-to-be-built Meijer small grocery store concept, it is a win-win for the neighborhood. In addition to this new enhancement, a Dexter-based craft brewing company will join the city block.
