This not-so-small project at
Meijer Gardens; is now underway and will be four years in the making. All new renovations and upgrades are consistent with our city’s commitment to LEED certification. Grand Rapids’ way of leading our nation by example- setting!
The New York firm Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects was chosen to design and expand the current gardens and sculpture park to include:
Additional parking, expanded -urban garden, -Tassell-Wisner-Bottrall English perennial garden, -Bissell INC Scenic Corridor, & existing amphitheater. New additions: Padnos Families Rooftop Sculpture Garden, outdoor picnic pavilion, sculpture garden entry plaza, Peter & Emmajean Cook Transportation Center (for outdoor tram tours), 20,000 sf. LEED-certified Covenant Learning Center and a 60,000 sf. LEED-certified Welcome Center.
These new areas will provide more galleries for sculpture exhibitions, expand horticulture exhibitions, educational offerings as well as increased and needed art storage.
